Multimedia Mash-up Editing Key
This guide (subject to change) explains the different levels of editing that I apply when creating audio/video mash-ups. I don’t choose the level in advance. I follow synchronistic hunches during the creative process in an effort to keep things fluid and spontaneous. But I thought that viewers would appreciate some context.
If you see one of my videos (on this website or a video hosting site like Vimeo) without an editing key reference, please let me know! If the video was uploaded/posted before March 2012, I may not have had a chance to update it.
Level 1) No editing to source video except cutting the start/finish to make a shorter clip. Little or no editing of source audio, except for volume and minor changes to start/finish.
Level 2) Minor effects applied to source video/soundtrack, but no cuts or rearrangements. Little or no editing of source audio.
Level 3) Moderate cuts, rearrangements, and/or effects applied to source video/soundtrack – and/or moderate edits/effects applied to source audio. The general order of source content is preserved.
Level 4) Extensive cuts, rearrangements, and/or effects applied to source video/soundtrack – and/or extensive edits/effects applied to source audio. The general order of source content is disturbed.
